Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.

The Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie, NY is proud to be a local chapter of this organization. We received our Charter on December 31, 1920, just five years after the founding of Kiwanis International. We are very proud of the Poughkeepsie Kiwanians who have served before us and the legacy they have left behind. Today, we carry on this legacy of providing community service to the greater Poughkeepsie area. The Kiwanis Motto is: “Serving the Children of the World”. Our Club takes this motto to heart and puts it into practice in all our volunteer activities, and the organizations we support.
